Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the natural successor of Universal Analytics (GA3). The new platform is the largest update to Google Analytics since 2012 when Universal Analytics was unveiled. As the legacy platform will be discontinued in July 2023, it is important to start collecting data in the new platform before July 2022. This way, when utilising GA4 from July 2023, it will be possible to perform year-on-year comparisons – a key performance measurement for every business – immediately, without data gaps.
The events collection system of GA4 is the core of the platform data tracking protocol, therefore it is necessary to implement from scratch all non-standard web / app events (not automatically collected). This is a great opportunity for a business to review all the current UA tracked events, and standardise and clean-up them before repurposing them into GA4.
