Google Data Studio has been identified as a best practice dashboard solution for visualizing the data from various data sources. It is a cloud based reporting tool by Google, which is free to use, and can be integrated with all Google solutions directly. We therefore recommend it as the platform for building the reporting framework. For more advanced modelling we integrate the google framework with Tableau. Furthermore, we integrate and automate multiple sources via API into data studio.
Building the new reporting process starts with designing the reporting framework, aligned to your specific requirements. This involves identifying what data is required, what are the data sources involved, and in what format data should be visualised. The design is made up of four steps:
In the case of social media channels such as Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter, direct connections cannot be established to Data Studio, however, specific Data Studio connectors allow for connecting spreadsheets, which we can use as a data warehouse to collect and collate this data and then import to data studio.
All non-Google data will be collected in Google Sheets, due the benefits of it using cloud, unlike MS Excel. This allows for combining any kind of data in one single cloud document, and can also serve as a digital warehouse for historical data, as it can be accessed by several users at the same time, at any point in time.
Application Programming Interface (API) calls will be used to retrieve social media, social listening, email marketing, and if used, Moz analytics data into the centralised Google Sheets document.
