Building a more measurable student recruitment engine for higher education

A joined-up digital recruitment engagement combining paid media, landing-page optimisation, search visibility and measurement to support demand generation for priority programmes.

The institution needed to strengthen recruitment activity while improving the quality of enquiries, the effectiveness of campaign journeys and the reliability of performance reporting.

The challenge

A higher-education provider needed a more focused way to turn digital activity into relevant prospective-student enquiries and applications across priority programmes.

The challenge was not simply to increase media activity. Recruitment performance depended on several connected factors: reaching suitable audiences, aligning campaign messages to programme intent, improving the landing-page journey, strengthening search visibility and making conversion data reliable enough to support ongoing decisions.

A fragmented channel-by-channel approach would have made it harder to see where recruitment friction was occurring. The engagement therefore treated paid media, landing pages, search visibility and measurement as parts of the same recruitment system, with activity prioritised around the areas most likely to improve the prospective-student journey.

What we did

  1. Establish the recruitment baseline

We reviewed the existing recruitment setup across paid media, priority landing pages, search visibility and analytics to identify the strongest starting points, obvious friction and the areas requiring closer attention.

  2. Refine audience and campaign focus

We structured paid activity around the audiences most relevant to the programmes being promoted, refining campaign targeting, search intent, advertising messages and budget priorities to support more relevant demand rather than undifferentiated traffic.

  3. Improve the conversion journey

We reviewed campaign landing pages, calls to action, forms and page structure so that the experience after the click was better aligned with prospective-student intent and easier to progress through.

  4. Strengthen measurement and optimisation

We reviewed conversion tracking, analytics and reporting so that campaign and landing-page performance could be interpreted more clearly. Ongoing optimisation then used those signals to inform where media effort and recruitment attention should be concentrated.

What the institution received

A more focused recruitment model

A clearer structure for connecting priority programmes, audience segments, paid activity and recruitment objectives.

Better-aligned campaign journeys

Advertising and landing-page recommendations designed around what prospective students needed to understand and do next, rather than treating the ad click as the end of the campaign task.

Clearer performance signals

A more coherent measurement approach for reviewing enquiries, application-related actions, conversion behaviour and campaign efficiency across channels.

An optimisation framework

A practical basis for adjusting campaign emphasis, landing-page priorities and recruitment activity as evidence accumulated, rather than relying on a fixed media plan.

Evidence

Evidence and scope

The engagement established a joined-up digital recruitment approach that connected paid media, landing-page optimisation, search visibility and measurement around priority student-recruitment objectives.

Method

Baseline review of recruitment activity, audience and campaign planning, paid media management, landing-page and conversion-path review, search and content support, conversion-tracking review, reporting refinement and ongoing optimisation.

Evidence context

The work focused on supporting recruitment for priority higher-education programmes with different audience and demand profiles. The public case study deliberately omits programme names, campaign dates, media budgets, exact audiences, commercial terms and other details that could identify the institution.

Limitations

The available source pack supports the completed scope and deliverables under the authorised proposal-completion assumption. It does not provide independently verified post-engagement enquiry, application, revenue or enrolment uplift, and no such performance claim is made. No testimonial or client quotation is used.
