Pre-launch SEO and AI-search readiness for a specialist ecommerce site

A focused pre-launch review designed to reduce search migration risk, strengthen indexing readiness and improve how product and supporting content could be interpreted across search and AI-mediated discovery.

The organisation was preparing a new ecommerce website and needed a clear view of the search, structured-data, content and AI-discovery issues that should be addressed before launch.

The challenge

A specialist ecommerce business was preparing to launch a new website and needed to protect the foundations of existing search visibility while also preparing for a discovery environment increasingly influenced by AI-generated answers, assistants and commerce experiences.

The challenge was not simply to complete a conventional SEO checklist. The organisation needed to understand whether the new site was ready to be crawled, indexed and interpreted correctly, whether its structured data and content architecture gave search systems sufficient clarity, and how product and supporting content could be made easier to surface in both traditional and AI-mediated discovery.

Because the engagement took place before launch, the priority was risk identification and decision support. DSC’s role was to identify the most important issues, distinguish immediate launch requirements from longer-term opportunities, and give the team a practical sequence of actions without turning the exercise into an unnecessarily deep implementation programme.

What we did

  1. Review launch and migration readiness

We examined the new site’s search-readiness at a high level, focusing on continuity, indexability and the areas most likely to create avoidable visibility risk during launch.

  2. Assess structured data and machine interpretation

We reviewed structured-data requirements and how the site’s information could be expressed more clearly to search engines and AI systems, identifying practical recommendations rather than treating schema as a standalone optimisation tactic.

  3. Evaluate AI-search and commerce readiness

We assessed how the site was positioned for AI-mediated discovery and reviewed relevant developments in AI-assisted commerce to identify implications for product visibility, discoverability and content presentation.

  4. Strengthen the content and discovery plan

We reviewed how existing and planned content could be structured and repurposed to support product discovery, clearer interpretation and stronger source-worthiness across both search and AI answer environments.

  5. Prioritise actions for launch and follow-through

We consolidated the findings into a concise recommendations document, separating immediate pre-launch priorities from opportunities that could be developed after launch.

What the organisation received

A clearer launch-risk picture

A prioritised view of the search and indexing issues that warranted attention before the new site went live.

Structured-data and interpretation guidance

Recommendations to improve how key site and product information could be understood by search engines and AI systems.

An AI-discovery readiness view

A practical assessment of how emerging AI-search and commerce behaviours affected the site’s visibility and content requirements.

A content opportunity roadmap

Clear guidance on how product and supporting content could be structured, repurposed and prioritised for stronger discoverability.

Evidence

Evidence and scope

The engagement gave the organisation a prioritised pre-launch view of search migration risk, structured-data requirements, AI-search readiness and content opportunities for a new ecommerce website.

Method

Focused pre-launch review across search migration readiness, structured data, AI indexing and interpretation, AI-assisted commerce developments, and content structure for search and AI-mediated discovery.

Evidence context

The work was advisory and pre-launch in nature. It concentrated on risk identification, readiness assessment and prioritised recommendations for a new specialist ecommerce website.

Limitations

The source pack supports the completed review and strategic recommendations under the authorised proposal-completion assumption. It does not establish that DSC implemented the recommended changes or that the website subsequently achieved any ranking, traffic, revenue, product-surfacing or AI-citation improvement. No such performance claim is made.
